WHAT IS DANDRUFF?
Dandruff is the shedding of skin on the scalp or other areas of the body where hair grows (like eyebrows, etc.) that results in white flakes on the head, neck, and shoulders.
WHAT CAUSES DANDRUFF?
Dandruff is typically caused by a skin condition called eczema. Eczema causes increased shedding of normal scalp skin cells and can be caused by seasonal or hormonal issues. Another common way people get dandruff is by contracting a fungal infection in the affected area.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?
Some common symptoms of dandruff include white, oily-looking flakes in the hair of the affected area, usually on your shoulders, and an itchy, scaling scalp that can be either excessively dry or oily.
HOW IS IT TREATED??
There are many over-the-counter products, such as anti-dandruff shampoos, which can often help prevent and get rid of the symptoms of dandruff. If you choose this route to treat your dandruff condition, we recommend that you shampoo daily to prevent a build-up of dead skin cells on your scalp.
When using these shampoos, make sure to rub your scalp thoroughly with several applications per wash. This will help dislodge excess cells. Be careful not to rub so energetically that you damage your scalp.
