7 Ways to Get Glowing Skin

As you age, skin can become dull and rough in texture — no longer having that beautiful glow you used to take for granted. Lack of sleep, not getting enough water each day, and a lackluster diet can make these complex problems even worse. The good news is that there are specific things you can do to help recapture your glow at any age. Here are seven ways to get your glow back.

1. Get Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a gentle, mechanical type of exfoliation using a small blade to remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz. Dermaplaning is painless, and the result is a brighter, smoother, and more even complexion. As an added bonus, moisturizers and serums absorb more readily into the skin after dermaplaning, which makes your whole skincare regimen more effective.

2. Try Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are another effective way to get glowing, younger-looking skin fast. Chemical peels work by gently exfoliating away the top layer of your skin to reveal the much healthier-looking skin underneath.

Chemical peels range in depth, from superficial peels you can get during your lunch break, to much deeper peels that require downtime but offer stunning results.

3. Add Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is magic in the form of a naturally occurring compound. Hyaluronic acid helps to naturally plump up the skin and restore your glow, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and providing great moisture all at the same time. Look for this power ingredient in high-quality serums, face masks, and night creams.

4. Try Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy devices bathe your skin in a beneficial LED light that has been shown to help stimulate new collagen and elastin growth. This effectively helps restore that plump, glowing look to your skin.

Red light therapy is offered in many dermatologists’ offices and medical spas, but you can also buy red light therapy handheld devices and face masks to use at home. While you catch up on your favorite Netflix show, you can also use red light therapy to get younger, more gorgeous skin.

5. Eat Plenty of Greens

Sometimes the best way to get a beautiful glow is from the inside out. The vitamins and potent antioxidants found in dark leafy greens can have a huge impact on how beautiful and healthy your skin looks. For an extra dose of beauty each morning, start your day with an energizing green smoothie packed with baby kale and spinach.

6. Have an IPL Photo facial

IPL photo facials help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, as well as sunspots and hyperpigmentation. Your skin is left bright, clear, and younger-looking. Your friends won’t be able to tell you what you have done, but they will know you suddenly look amazing.

IPL photo facials are quite gentle and don’t usually involve much downtime, but like other cosmetic beauty treatments, they do leave your skin more vulnerable to the sun. Be sure to wear broad-spectrum sunblock before and after your treatment and anytime you’re in the sun.

7. Take Great Care of Yourself

In your teens and twenties, you can probably get away with little sleep and unhealthy diets without sacrificing too much on the beauty front. With age, however, lifestyle shows itself on your face clearly. Instead of looking at this as a bad thing, see it as an excuse to take extra good care of yourself.

Get eight hours of sleep a night, work out a few times a week, spend time de-stressing each night with a little yoga and deep breathing, and drink tons of water with lemon each day. You will not only feel more energetic and happier, but your skin will reward you with an amazing glow.

By following these tips and working closely with an experienced dermatologist, you will soon have younger-looking skin that truly glows. For more information, reach out to us at Advanced Dermatology & Skin Cancer Specialists
